Amandelen groeien in alle landen langs de Middellandse zee, met name Spanje is een bekend land waar deze noot groeit. Ze groeien ook in grote hoeveelheden in Amerika, die zijn de grootste in de wereldhandel ongeveer 70/80 %.
Er bestaan ongeveer 25 soorten amandelen welke allemaal groeien aan een amandelboom. Een amandel is een noot, verstopt in een vrucht die een beetje lijkt op een hele kleine perzik.
Een amandel is erg gezond, bevat veel vezels en vitamine E. Daarnaast zorgen ze ook nog eens voor een goede darmwerking.
De amandel is één van de bekendste noten en worden vaak gebruikt. Denk aan geschaafde amandelen, gehakte amandelen, geroosterde amandelen en amandelspijs.
Waar kun je amandelen allemaal voor gebruiken:
- Tijdens je ontbijt in je yoghurt of havermout
- Verwerk het in een gerecht,
- Of snack gewoon een handje tussendoor.
