Onze makreel wordt gevangen in een duurzame visserij in de Noordoost-Atlantische Oceaan. Makreel is een trekvis. Ze worden gevangen als ze in de herfst de Britse wateren ten noordoosten van Shetland binnenzwemmen en daarna weer in het nieuwe jaar (januari en februari) als ze ten westen van Orkney en Lewis zwemmen. De visserij wordt duurzaam beheerd via het quotasysteem. De goudgele makreel krijgt deze mooie kleur na het rookproces. Deze vis heeft een hoog vetgehalte en is daarom een zeer geschikte vissoort om te kunnen roken. Hij wordt gerookt op beukenhout en dit geeft een specifieke en onderscheidende smaak. Verder is deze vis rijk aan vitamine D en Omega 3 vetzuren. Makreel is te prijzen vanwege de veelzijdigheid. Product is ready to eat, perfect voor op een salade of voor door een pasta gerecht.
