Samenvatting
Na de monsterhit ‘Not an addict‘ uit 1996 begon de Belgische band K’s Choice aan een wilde rit langs de grootste festivals over de hele wereld. Altijd al een afwijkende band, met een eigen sound, kozen ze destijds al hun eigen pad, met Sam Bettens als rebellerend gezicht.Maar hoeveel ruimte voor identiteit heb je nog, voor het oog van tienduizenden? Sam Bettens heeft zijn eigen leven lang al onderzocht wie hij was en hoe hij daarin gevormd is. Rockster? Ja. Maar ook: een transman, een vader, een stiefvader, een (inmiddels) Amerikaan en – jawel – een brandweerman. Tegenwoordig treedt Sam op met de band Rex Rebel en K’s Choice en woont hij in Californië met zijn vrouw en kinderen.
Sam Bettens neemt de lezer mee in zijn leven van vele gedaantes, van het telkens vervellen en zich opnieuw uitvinden.
