Fettuccine translates to "little ribbons." It's flatter than linguine. In Rome they are usually called “fettuccine”. It is a flat, thick pasta traditionally made of egg and flour, narrower than, but similar to, the tagliatelle typical of Bologna. It’s fairly wide, so it works well with chunky meat sauces, unlike other types of long pasta. Fettuccine is often classically eaten with sugo di umido (beef ragù) or ragù di pollo (chicken ragù). It is a flat, thick pasta traditionally made of egg and flour.
