Kurkuma (Curcuma longa) vindt zijn oorsprong in India en Azië, is een plant verwant aan gember en wordt al eeuwenlang gebruikt in de ayurvedische geneeskunde omwille van zijn weldoende eigenschappen. Het oranjegele poeder afkomstig van de wortel, bevat curcuminoïden en heeft een ondersteunende werking voor de lever en de spijsvertering. Kurkuma is een zeer krachtige antioxidant en onontbeerlijk in kerries.
