Toen Nicola Davies door de schetsboeken van Petr Horácek bladerde, wist ze niet wat ze zag: zo’n rijkdom aan beelden, die stuk voor stuk vroegen om een verhaal of een gedicht.
Ze besloot om de normale gang van zaken om te draaien: er zouden geen illustraties worden gemaakt bij een bestaande tekst – zij ging teksten schrijven bij bestaande illustraties.
De superkorte voorleesverhaaltjes, half gedicht, half gedachte, altijd prachtig, waren zo mooi geworden dat Petr besloot om de prenten waarop ze gebaseerd waren allemaal opnieuw te maken – nóg mooier.
En dat werd De sterrenwalvis. Een boek om keer op keer bij weg te dromen.
