Violet en haar vrienden zijn fans van de populaire serie De Galgendans. Tijdens een bizar ongeluk op Comic Con komen ze écht in het verhaal terecht en moeten ze rol van hun helden spelen. Inmiddels is er een jaar voorbij sinds Violet, Alice en Katie zijn ontsnapt uit de Galgendans-wereld. Maar Violets broertje Nate zit daar nog vast en ligt al die tijd in de echte wereld in coma. Na een fikse ruzie met Alice keert Violet samen met Katie terug om haar broertje te redden. Dan duikt er een fanfic-schrijver op die duistere hoofdstukken toevoegt aan het bestaande verhaal, en Alice is de enige die haar vrienden kan redden…
