Ward Wijnant: “CHUNK ontstaat uit geperst aluminiumfolie. Door deze techniek kan ik als het ware het materiaal boetseren, waardoor er oneindig veel mogelijkheden en vormen kunnen ontstaan. In mijn ontwerpen zijn de techniek en het materiaal leidend voor de uiteindelijke vorm van het eindproduct”.

Ward’s werk kenmerkt zich door het experimenteren met materialen. Zijn missie is om de diversiteit van technieken en materialen te vertalen naar een ultiem, hedendaags design met aandacht voor detail en afwerking. Ward laat zien hoe het materiaal en de bewerking ervan, de vorm beïnvloeden. Het element van verrassing is essentieel in zijn design. Ward Wijnant (1987, Tilburg) ontwikkelde zich, tijdens zijn studie aan het HMC (Hout-en Meubileringscollege), in verschillende ambachtelijke technieken en materiaalkennis. Ward miste echter diepte, creativiteit en het verhaal achter het object. Op de Design Academie Eindhoven leerde hij conceptueel denken en werken. Hij studeerde af als onafhankelijk designer en startte zijn eigen bedrijf in 2015.
