Description
Linda Dielemans liet zich voor Koningsspel inspireren door de Lewis-schaakstukken. In 1830 werden deze bijzondere schaakstukken uit de 12e eeuw, gemaakt van walrusivoor, gevonden op het Schotse eiland Lewis. Vermoedelijk zijn ze gemaakt in Noorwegen of IIsland.
Het verhaal van Linda begint in 1193, op Groenland. Hoofdpersoon Auga kan niet goed zien, maar ze blinkt uit in ivoorsnijden. Juist omdat ze van dichtbij zo scherp ziet, kan ze de fijnste krasjes maken in het ivoor dat de jagers meebrengen van de walrusjacht. Stiekem glipt Auga aan boord van haar vaders schip. Ongewild raakt Auga betrokken bij een strijd tussen meedogenloze machthebbers. Ze moet voorkomen dat haar prachtige schaakspel in verkeerde handen terechtkomt, met gevaar voor eigen leven…
