In dit bijzonder fraai uitgevoerde boek neemt illustratrice en papierkunstenares Hélène Druvert de lezer mee op een magische rondreis met de beroemde kinderjuf Mary Poppins als gids. Decor is het Londen van begin twintigste eeuw. Mary Poppins zeilt aan haar paraplu uit de hemel naar beneden en neemt Jane en Michael mee uit wandelen langs Buckingham Palace, de Big Ben en Picadilly Circus.
Maar zij voert hen ook naar fantasiewerelden onder water en aan de sterrenhemel
Gedetailleerde papier uitsneden bieden door een spel met silhouetten en patronen een bijzondere kijkervaring. De uitsneden uit zwart papier liggen tussen witte pagina's met eenvoudige zwart-wit-grijze illustraties, zodat er gelaagde beelden ontstaan die veranderen bij het omslaan van de pagina's. De tekst op rijm doet ouderwets aan, wat goed past bij de sfeer van de illustraties, maar is van ondergeschikt belang.
