Description
Het is het jaar 1604 - Zain groeit op in een harem in Marokko, als zoon van een Marokkaanse piraat en een Nederlandse moeder.
Zain is een gelovige jongen en voorbestemd om grootste dingen te doen, aldus zijn Koranleraar.
Wanneer hij gevangengenomen wordt door Spanjaarden lijkt de toekomst donkerder dan ooit. Hij wordt als slaaf aan het werk gezet op een oorlogsschip en maakt de meest afschuwelijke dingen mee.
Aan zijn levensgevaarlijke tocht lijkt maar geen einde te komen, totdat het schip koers zet naar Zeeland. Zou hij, als half Nederlander, kunnen ontsnappen aan zijn harde lot in het land van zijn moeder?
