DorstlustIt all started when the owners of the Berlin based Michel Berger Hotel were on a vacation in Thailand, where they tasted fresh coconut water straight from the nut for the first time. They fell in love with the wonderful taste and they just wanted to share this amazing drink with their friends in Germany.
But unfortunately there are no palm tree’s in Berlin so they decided to search for the highest quality of nuts in Thailand, where the most delicious coconut water were coming from.
After a long search they found a medium sized family owned plant, which not only made super nice coconut water but also did it on a socially and ecologically compatible way.
The palm tree’s are growing without any chemicals involved and when the nuts have the right age, they get harvested, filtered through a special modern machine and canned into our special tin cans all within ours on the same plant.
Before it is canned the water is heated up very shortly, so all the micro organism are killed and due to a special method of canning and the use of a much stronger tin can, the coconut water is free from oxygen, when canned, so there is no need for any kind of preservative like sugar or ascorbic acid. What you get is a super fresh 100% natural and vital coconut water.
However there is no added sugar, the coconut water tastes a bit sweeter. This is due to the fact that every fruit, and that’s what a young coconut is, has it’s own fruit sugars, but the taste also depends on the region the nuts are coming from. Thailand is known for their sweeter nuts instead of Philippine nuts for instance.
Another factor is the age of the nuts when harvested; how older the nut the sweeter it gets, but here is the catch, how younger the nut, the more liquid/coconut water there is to gain.
And we just like a sweeter taste more then sour and they are prepared to wait a little longer and use a little bit more nuts to get the same amount.
Besides it’s wonderful taste, coconut water is also very good for your body, it’s full of electrolytes, it is naturally isotonic so it’s a great refreshment in warm environments, it’s rehydrating your body, so it is a perfect hangover cure or a good in-between-er when drinking alcohol.
It is perfect mixable with vodka, grass vodka, dark rum, a nutty liqueur like Frangelico, you can even drink it warm with ginger and lime and a splash of brown rum.
You can serve it with a glass, no ice, only in the mixes, unless it is really warm, or serve it straight out of the can with a straw; the little black ones are perfect!
In the mix you serve it with some ice cubes, one part alcohol, the rest coconut water and put a little lime wedge on the side, served with a little straw.
