Liatris spicata 'Kobold' is een mooie borderplant die in de zomer aarvormige bloemen geeft. Spicata is Latijn voor 'aarvorming'. Van oorsprong is het een prairieplant. Het is dan ook een sterke, winterharde tuinplant, maar dan wel zijn blad verliest. Als alle knoppen aan de aren verschenen zijn, begint de bloei van paarse bloemetjes boven aan de aar.
