Bladrammenas is een twee-in-een gewas. In de eerste plaats is het een snelgroeiende, diepwortelende groenbemester die 80 tot 110 cm hoog wordt. Met de dikke penwortels maakt deze plant de grond mooi luchtig en waterdoorlatend. Wanneer het gewas wordt ondergewerkt, wordt veel organische stof aan de grond toegevoegd. De plant is dus in alle opzichten een bodemverbeteraar.
