Description
De koninklijke King Krab of rode koningskrab heeft zijn naam, die hij te danken heeft aan de rode kleur na het koken, niet gestolen. Het is ongetwijfeld één van de populairste krabsoorten voor menselijke consumptie. Jaarlijks worden er miljoenen rode koningskrabben ingeblikt of ingevroren. In theorie kan de king krab een gigantische omvang van 2 meter bereiken. De krab gedijt het best in noordelijke wateren. Noorwegen en Rusland zijn de voornaamste spelers in de koningskrabvisserij. Al komt de krab ook voor bij Alaska.
CULINAIR
De malse krabbenpoten (de zogenaamde merussectie) van de king krab worden terecht als een heerlijke lekkernij beschouwd. De koningskrab is ideaal om te verwerken in aperitiefgerechten zoals krabcocktails, krabsla, enzovoort. Maar ook in ovenrecepten, gegrild of op de barbecue biedt de king krab culinaire mogelijkheden. Van alle krabsoorten wordt de rode koningskrab algemeen als de meest smaakvolle en veelzijdige beschouwd. King krab is en blijft een topper bij feestelijke aangelegenheden.
