Garrafeira betekent letterlijk vertaald “Het beste van het huis”, maar is in Portugal ook een officiële benaming voor wijnen uit de beste jaren, die minimaal 30 maanden op hout hebben gerijpt en 12 maanden op de fles. De Garrafeira wijnen van Lacrau worden op internet breed geprezen. In Portugal groeiden vroeger alle druivenrassen kriskras door elkaar, dus ook in deze wijn veel verschillende druiven, er zijn er meer dan 20 geïdentificeerd. De wijnstokken zijn meer dan 60 jaar oud. Dit geeft de wijn een uitzonderlijke complexiteit, maar gelijk ook een grote elegantie. Je proeft rood en zwart fruit door elkaar, subtiel vermengd met allerlei specerijen. Elke druivensoort brengt weer zijn eigen karakter mee. Geen goedkope wijn, maar zijn gewicht in goud waard! Goncalo Sousa Lopes en Rui Cunha van Quinta da Faisca verbouwen zelf geen druiven. Ze kopen druiven in de directe omgeving en specialiseren zich om op ambachtelijke wijze daar de mooiste wijnen van te maken. En mooi en heerlijk zijn de wijnen!
