Het drinken van Sake in Japan is gebonden aan de etiquette die u thuis aan de eettafel natuurlijk ook kunt volgen.
De etiquette zegt dat Sake voor u ingeschonken wordt door uw tafelgenoot, u vult nooit zelf uw eigen Sakekopje (ochoko) vanuit de Sakeschenker (tokkuri). Als u Sake heeft ingeschonken voor uw tafelgenoten dan dient een van uw tafelgenoten de Sake voor u in te schenken in uw ochoko.
De ochoko mogen regelmatig bijgeschonken worden.
In formele situaties houdt u de ochoko met 2 handen vast tijdens het proosten.
